Reading
At Burley, reading is a joyful, mind-expanding adventure and a source of reflection, inspiration, empathy, and awareness for students of all ages. Teachers go beyond skills and scores to develop and nurture our students’ love of reading. Teachers and parents work together to ensure reading is a part of students’ lives outside of the school day and to foster the joy of reading. Along with instruction in reading skills, strategies, and word knowledge, our students engage in author studies, independent reading, read-aloud, and book clubs within classrooms that are brimming with current, high quality literature.
